falala-dispute:
obviously, when someone says that cheerleading is not a sport our first instinct is to pounce on them and rant about how much it is and go on and on about how other people can’t do it and blah blah blah
but instead of spitting out our own opinions on it, just give them straight facts.
the women’s sports foundation defined a sport as:
- a physical activity involving propelling a mass through space or overcoming the resistance of mass
- competing or contesting against others
- having rules that define time, space, and how a winner is declared
so. overcoming the resistance of mass? stunting, tumbling, throwing yourself and others in the air and catching them
contesting against others? competitions…check
defining time, space, and how a winner is declared? two minutes and thirty seconds, large blue mats (9 if i’m correct?), and score sheets
i’d say that, by definition, competitive cheerleading is absolutely a sport. no argument about it. the end :)
